The Center for Visuals Artists awarded Becky VanderVeen first place in its Photo Bienniel for her portrait of Greensboro Arm Wrestling League (GRAWL) wrestler Queen Jay on Friday, Sept. 2.

VanderVeen is a GRAWL’s family photograher, capturing the magic of the league’s fundraising brawls as well as being the creative force behind the stunning wrestler portraits GRAWL uses to promote itself. VanderVeen and her husband, Bert, own VanderVeen Photographers, located in downtown Greensboro.

VanderVeen entered the picture of Queen Jay into the juried photography contest, along with a portrait of GRAWL wrestler Pussies Galore. Both portraits are for sale for $200. You can see VanderVeen’s work in person at the Center for Visuals Artists, 200 N. Davie St. in Greensboro, until the photo show ends Nov. 11.
